United Arab Emirates builds university in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 14 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Red Crescent has completed construction of Sheikh Zayed University in Afghanistan as part of UAE’s rebuilding in the country, WAM news agency reported Friday.

The university is located in Khost province, 200 km from the capital Kabul and has been built at a cost of $4.8 million donated by the late UAE leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, said UAE Charge d’ Affaires in Kabul, Mohammed Ahmed Al Othman.

The university would provide higher education in medicine, engineering, agriculture, technology, Islamic studies, arts, literature and education.

“The university will open soon and will welcome 3000 students”, Al Othman said.
